FRANK R. MCDONOUGH A
native from New Jersey, I’m a mosaic artist and custom tile maker as well as
songwriter and visual artist, living and working in Chatham Township, NJ.
I specialize in unique hand-made tiles and custom mosaic design and
installations. In my free time I enjoy writing music on my keyboards.
Combining and interpreting nature’s place in my life allows me to infuse my
inspiration in every tile, mosaic and song I create. I have small tile art for sale seasonally in Provincetown, Massachusetts and year-round at the Mosaic Studio and Gallery in Gladstone, NJ. My work is also available at the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Summit at various times throughout the year. My tiles can be seen as part of a permanent installation at the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. My music from “The WayOuts” is currently available on ITUNES and CDbaby.com and can be heard on NJ Radio Q104.3 and the Oxygen network. I am currently a member of the Chatham Township Art League; New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Society of Mosaic Artists, Drew Art Association, Arts Council of the Morris Area and Provincetown Artist Registry. |

Why my
site is called MyShadowBox.com : A Shadowbox
(commonly known as a California Job Case) is a old printers drawer with
compartments that hold lead type for letter press printing. The
apocryphal story is that the arrangement of the compartments was created by a
traveling circus performer who ran away from the circus. After he created the
printers drawer, he returned to the circus. The empty
compartments in the above table would contain spacers, blocks of blank type
used to separate words and fill out a line of type. Nowadays, one is most likely
to encounter the Shadowbox (California Job Case, Printer Drawer) at flea
markets, swap meets and swanky interior design boutiques as accessories for
holding nic-nacs and other life affirming
ornamental detritus. MYSHADOWBOX.com is named because I too am filling my
life and website with a collection of my favorite passions: Mosaics, Tile
Making, Music and Art. My first show to kick off my art career started
with a show of Shadowboxes and has evolved into the world of custom ceramic
art. Ergo, this is
more then just a website. It is MY shadowbox. |
